Lisa + Will // CHURCH WEDDING // Gold Coast

Move over ROYAL FAMILY - You just got totally sidelined!

I kid you not, when I scream this at you buuuttt Lisa + Will’s wedding was totes regal, beautiful and just oozed sophistication (unlike my grammar haha). From the massive Air Bnb in Kirra that housed a little plunge pool (where they all got glammed up), to the handmade Italian custom made wedding dress (it had three layers!), to the Catholic cathedral like church, our own personal limo driver that drove us around for our portrait session, and lastly, to the epic venue by the Tweed River!

So if you are looking for a bit of tradition in your wedding day, let this be a beautiful example - then after the formalities are all done, you can shake your tail feathers, grab your drinks, let the piano man know what’s up, and boogy on away. Seriously, Lisa + Will’s shoulder dances are in my top five fave images ever.

Little advice from Lisa herself..

If there is one thing we would suggest to brides and grooms to be, it would be to enjoy the lead up to your wedding as much as the day itself. It can be such an overwhelming, exciting, stressful and joyful experience all at the same time!

A big part of this is working with the right people to bring your wedding day to life. Your vendors are what makes the magic happen before the day, on the day, and even afterwards!

Once we had chosen the picturesque Ancora Weddings for our venue, we immediately started hunting for a photographer to capture those special moments. We stayed open to options, however had some general criteria:

  • Wonderful person to work with - you need to feel comfortable

  • Modern, candid style (we are both a little camera shy)

  • Familiar with the Gold Coast, one of our favourite places in the world

At the time, my (now) husband and I lived in London, so we had to resort to the internet or word of mouth. I typed #goldcoastphotography into Instagram and I saw a whole host of images. This is how I found Daphne, and she was one of few I got in touch with.

Daphne's photos instantly stood out to both of us - natural, candid and captured beautiful moments between couples and families. She responded to me very quickly and professionally, helping me to understand the best package to capture our day.

Many others I had contacted were also great - but Daphne treated us as a unique couple, and not just another wedding. She took a real interest in our story, us as people, and was very understanding of us organising a wedding from 17000km away.

Once we moved back to Australia, we had the chance to finally meet in person through our engagement shoot. This was gold dust - not only did it make us feel so much more comfortable and open in front of a camera, but sharing breakfast together felt like we were making a friend. Daphne's energy, enthusiasm and emotion for all couples confirmed we had made the right decision. In the weeks that followed, Daphne was very professional - finalising the run sheet, collecting names of family members and ideas of pictures that we had to have. She was just as excited as we were!

Thinking back to our wedding day, those moments getting ready were so very intimate. You're with family and friends with whom you share a lot of history, not to mention those nerves and emotions that pop up. When Daphne turned up at our 'bridal villa' as we called it, I felt like I was welcoming another friend into our home. I cried in front of her, my mother, bridesmaids, brothers and nephews adored her instantly. My husband tells me that she had he and his groomsmen laughing all morning and having a great time getting pictures taken (coming from him, who doesn't even like cameras!)

In a flash, the evening was over. Within 24 hours, we received a sneak peak of our pictures, and within a few weeks, the rest of them appeared. They made our heart melt. Daphne had managed to capture all that we felt, but everything that we did not see. Details, emotions and joy leap from the photos - they are now one of our most precious treasures.
